Streak vs HubSpot for Gmail CRM: Inside the Inbox or Outside?

Streak vs HubSpot for Gmail CRM — an in-inbox CRM sidebar next to a standalone CRM dashboard, with a sync arrow between them.

The short answer

For a Gmail-based sales team, Streak wins if your work never leaves Gmail — pipelines, tracking, and no context switch. HubSpot wins if you need real reporting, marketing tie-ins, or team scale beyond a few reps. Streak is a CRM inside your inbox; HubSpot is a CRM that syncs to it.

Streak vs HubSpot for Gmail CRM: Streak lives in the inbox, HubSpot syncs to it. Which one fits your team, and where each stops scaling.

The choice between Streak and HubSpot for a Gmail-based sales team is not really a feature fight. It is an architecture choice. Streak is a Chrome extension that turns Gmail into the CRM — pipelines, deal boxes and tracking live inside the message list you already use. HubSpot is a separate platform that syncs with Gmail through an extension and a BCC address, giving you a full CRM dashboard alongside the inbox rather than inside it.

Both approaches log email against contacts and deals. The difference is where the source of truth sits — and that decides everything else: how fast your reps adopt it, how much reporting you get, and how many people can use it before the model breaks. This guide compares them on the dimensions that actually decide the purchase, tells you which reader should stop reading and go buy the other one, and names one honest concession per side. Verify current pricing on each vendor's own page before you commit — the numbers in this category move often.

The verdict up front#

Pick Streak if your reps live in Gmail all day, your team is under about ten people, and your pipeline is deal-shaped rather than campaign-shaped. Setup is measured in minutes, adoption is close to automatic because the CRM is where the mail already is, and you never train anyone to switch tabs. The trade is a smaller reporting surface and a ceiling you will hit as the team and the data grow.

Pick HubSpot if you need real reporting, want marketing and service tools next to sales, or expect to grow past a handful of seats. The Free CRM tier lets you get started at no cost, the extension logs Gmail emails to contact records either automatically via BCC or on click, and the dashboards will not run out of room. The trade is a second surface to open, an onboarding curve, and per-seat pricing that climbs quickly once you move past the free tier.

Streak wins on friction and inbox fidelity. HubSpot wins on reporting depth, ecosystem breadth and headroom. If you cannot decide, the tie-breaker is honest: how much time do your reps already spend outside Gmail? If the answer is almost none, Streak. If the answer is meaningful, HubSpot.

At-a-glance comparison#

The table below compares the two on the dimensions that actually decide a Gmail CRM purchase. Neither product is bad on any row — the winner is the one built around that dimension as its main job.

We describe packaging shape rather than dollar amounts because both vendors change tiers, per-seat rates and free-plan caps often. Verify the current numbers on streak.com/pricing and hubspot.com/pricing before you commit.

Where Streak wins#

Streak wins on the axis most Gmail CRM comparison posts skip: fidelity to the inbox as the actual workspace. When a reply lands in Gmail, it is already on the deal box. There is no sync lag, no separate window to check, no risk that a rep replied from Gmail and the CRM never heard about it. Adoption is what usually kills a CRM rollout, and Streak's answer is to remove the switch entirely.

Setup is fast in a way that matters for small teams. Install the extension, sign in with the Google account, click New Pipeline and drop columns for stages. You are tracking deals inside the hour. Imports for existing contacts work, but many teams skip the import and let the pipeline fill from live mail — every thread from a new address becomes a candidate box.

The mobile story is honest. Streak's iOS and Android apps wrap Gmail-facing views, so the same pipeline you see on desktop is what you see on the road. Reps who already use Gmail on mobile do not learn a second app; they see boxes in the same thread view.

Streak's Kanban and grid views inside Gmail are surprisingly capable for teams that think in deal stages — customisable columns, formulas in cells, task rollups and pinned notes on each box. For a founder-led sales team or a small agency book, this is often more than enough CRM.

  • Zero context switch — pipelines live in the Gmail tab your reps already have open.
  • Automatic email threading against the deal box, no BCC step to remember.
  • Fast setup — a pipeline in an afternoon, not a quarter.
  • Mobile experience continues the Gmail workflow instead of replacing it.

The honest concession, on this side

HubSpot has built harder on cross-team reporting and marketing automation than Streak has. If you need revenue attribution, multi-touch reports or a shared source of truth across sales, marketing and support, that is Streak's ceiling and HubSpot's floor.

Where HubSpot wins#

HubSpot wins on everything that stops being a solved problem once your team grows past a handful of reps. Reporting is the clearest one. The free CRM already includes dashboards, and paid tiers add custom reports, revenue attribution, forecast tracking and pipeline analytics that Streak does not attempt. If your leadership wants a weekly view of pipeline coverage, win rates by rep or source-to-close reporting, that is native HubSpot territory.

The Gmail integration is real, even though HubSpot lives outside the inbox. Two ways to log an email work today: paste the account's BCC address into the BCC line, and the message threads onto the contact automatically; or use the HubSpot Sales Chrome extension, which shows a Log checkbox in Gmail so you can log outgoing mail to a matching contact record with one click. Default log settings can pre-select the record. Incoming replies land on the contact record once the thread is connected.

The ecosystem is the second unfair advantage. Marketing Hub, Service Hub, Content Hub and Operations Hub all share the same CRM data. Streak does not attempt any of that, and does not need to for its ideal customer. If you expect to hire a marketer, add a ticketing queue, or start attributing revenue to campaigns, you can turn those on inside HubSpot without a new tool.

HubSpot also scales further per rep in a way that matters as the team grows. There is no rule that everyone has to be on the same plan, and the per-seat pricing lets you mix paid Sales Hub seats with free CRM viewers. Larger deployments are common. The Free CRM ceiling — two paid users, one deal pipeline and a thousand contacts as of August 2026 — is where most teams first meet the paywall, and it comes early.

  • Reporting depth Streak does not attempt — attribution, forecasts, custom dashboards.
  • Free CRM tier lets a team try it with no card, subject to the current caps.
  • Shared data model across sales, marketing and service.
  • Scales to hundreds of seats without changing tool.

The honest concession, on this side

Streak wins the daily Gmail workflow. HubSpot's extension is capable, but the CRM still lives in a second tab. Reps who never want to leave Gmail will always accept Streak faster than they accept HubSpot, and that difference is real.

Pricing model — shape, not numbers#

Both vendors change tier names, per-seat rates and free-plan caps often enough that any number in this post would be stale within a month. What is durable is the shape.

Streak is a free tier plus per-seat paid tiers, currently branded Pro, Pro+ and Enterprise, with an annual discount and Enterprise gated by a minimum team size. The free tier includes email power tools (tracking, snippets, mail merge with a daily cap) and a basic CRM setup — pipelines, boxes and simple contact management — usable for a solo user or a very small team. Paid tiers unlock custom fields, team collaboration, richer reporting and higher automation caps. One catch worth knowing before you buy: everyone on the team must be on the same plan, so upgrading one rep upgrades all of them.

HubSpot is a free CRM plus per-seat paid tiers across Sales Hub, Marketing Hub, Service Hub and others, currently branded Starter, Professional and Enterprise. The Free CRM tier is genuinely free with no expiration and, as of August 2026, is capped at two users, one deal pipeline and one thousand contacts. Paid tiers add reporting, automation, additional pipelines and more seats. Larger commitments typically include a mandatory onboarding fee that is not visible on the pricing page itself, so ask before you sign.

Two things to verify on each vendor's own page at the time you buy: (1) the current per-seat rate and any minimum-seat rules, and (2) the current cap on the free tier — HubSpot has tightened its free-user cap over the past two years, and Streak has moved features between its paid tiers.

Verify on the vendor's own page

Neither of these numbers is a source of truth. Check streak.com and hubspot.com before you commit, and treat any third-party review that quotes a price as a lead rather than a fact.

Who each is genuinely for#

Streak is right when three things are all true: the team is small enough that everyone can be on the same plan without argument (call it under ten), the work runs through Gmail more than any other tool, and the CRM job is deal-shaped rather than campaign-shaped. Founder-led sales at an early startup, a small agency's account book, a solo real-estate broker's active listings, a two-person recruiter team — all classic Streak fits. If you would rather add columns to a pipeline than build a marketing funnel, Streak is the answer.

Streak stops fitting when the reporting question gets serious. Once leadership wants weekly pipeline coverage broken out by rep and source, or a forecast that leadership actually trusts, or attribution back to a marketing campaign, Streak's reports feel thin. It also stops fitting past roughly ten seats — not because the software breaks, but because the pipeline-in-Gmail metaphor gets crowded and the same-plan-for-everyone rule becomes expensive.

HubSpot is right when any of the following are true: you want a free tier to prove the pilot before you spend, your team is bigger than a handful, you need reporting the finance side will accept, or you expect to add marketing and service work to the same account. It is the safer institutional pick — the CRM you can defend to a board.

HubSpot stops fitting when the rep-facing UX is the bottleneck. If your salespeople are unhappy in the CRM they have, the Chrome extension will help but it will not turn Gmail into HubSpot. Adoption problems are real, and Streak solves them by not asking anyone to leave Gmail at all. Also: the Free CRM tier is deceptively cheap. The paid tiers, especially with mandatory onboarding on larger contracts, are not the same shape at all.

A third option, honestly#

This post compares two CRMs, and if you need a CRM, one of them is the answer. AI Emaily is not a CRM. We are an AI email client — the layer that reads incoming mail, drafts replies in your voice, files threads by rule, and closes loops that would otherwise sit for days. That is a different job from tracking a deal through stages.

But sales teams who use Streak or HubSpot spend most of their day in mail, not in the pipeline, and the CRM does not help with the mail itself. That is where we fit. AI Emaily sits in front of Gmail, triages what comes in, and lets an agent draft the routine reply so the rep only touches the messages that actually change a deal's outcome. Streak or HubSpot still owns the pipeline; we own the inbox that feeds it. We build AI Emaily, and we are honest about the scope — if you are choosing a CRM, choose one of the two above.

The genuine dimension we concede: we do not do pipeline management, forecasting, or reporting on deal stages. If your problem is 'what is the state of every open deal', that is not our problem to solve. If your problem is 'the reps cannot get through the inbox to work the deals in the first place', that is what we do. A team can run both.

  • AI triage — labels, tabs and priority so the deal-critical mail surfaces.
  • Voice-matched drafts from a user-set Personal Context brain and per-client profiles.
  • Approve-before-send by default; Autopilot only on gated categories with undo and audit.
  • Works with Gmail, Outlook and IMAP — same client for every account a rep touches.
