Does Yahoo Mail Auto-Forwarding Require a Paid Plan?

Short answer: yes, automatic forwarding is a Yahoo Mail Plus feature now. A free Yahoo Mail account can send a message forward one at a time, but the "copy every new message to another address automatically" setting only appears once you're subscribed to Plus, and even then it's not guaranteed to show up in every account.

How Yahoo's auto-forwarding actually works#

It's worth understanding the mechanism, because it explains most of the confusing behavior people report. Auto-forwarding is a copy operation, not a redirect. Yahoo still receives the message, still applies your filters and spam rules to it first, and only then sends a duplicate to the address you configured — the original stays in your Yahoo inbox unless you've separately chosen to archive forwarded mail.

If a filter moves a message to a folder before forwarding runs, that message may never get forwarded at all, because as far as Yahoo's mail pipeline is concerned, the filter already handled it. Yahoo Mail forwarding not working — what to check#

If you've done the setup and mail still isn't arriving at the destination, work through these before assuming it's broken:

• Check spam/junk on the destination account — forwarded mail from a new sending domain gets flagged there more often than mail sent directly, especially in the first few days after you set it up.
• Confirm you clicked Verify, not just saved the address. An unverified forwarding address is the single most common reason nothing happens, and Settings gives no visual warning that it's still pending.
• Look for a Yahoo filter that's intercepting the message before forwarding runs — filters and forwarding can conflict depending on the order Yahoo applies them, per the mechanism above.
• If the subscription lapsed, forwarding stops immediately even though the address is still listed in Settings — the field doesn't grey out or disappear just because the plan expired.
• Test with a plain message from an address you control before troubleshooting a real sender. It rules out whether the problem is forwarding itself or something specific to how that sender's mail is formatted.

Alternatives to Yahoo auto-forward if you don't want Plus#
