Connect Yahoo Mail

Connect a Yahoo Mail account to AI Emaily using the IMAP tab and a Yahoo app password.

Yahoo Mail does not have a one-click button in AI Emaily, so you connect it through the IMAP tab. You sign in with your Yahoo address and a Yahoo app password instead of your normal login password.

Before you start

You need your Yahoo email address and a Yahoo app password. An app password is a separate, single-purpose password that Yahoo generates for apps that connect over IMAP.

Yahoo requires an app password whenever two-step verification is on. Use the app password in AI Emaily, not the password you type when signing in to Yahoo Mail in a browser.

Paste an app password, not your login password

Enter a Yahoo app password, never your normal Yahoo login password. AI Emaily envelope-encrypts every credential at rest and decrypts it only inside an isolated sync worker. Your credential is never logged or sent to your browser.

Create a Yahoo app password

  1. 1

    Open Yahoo Account Security

Sign in to Yahoo, then go to Account Info, then Account Security.

  2. 2

    Generate an app password

Select Generate app password (or Manage app passwords). If you do not see this option, turn on two-step verification first, then return to this screen.

  3. 3

    Name the app

Enter a name you will recognize, such as AI Emaily, so you can revoke it later if needed.

  4. 4

    Copy the password

Yahoo shows a generated password. Copy it now. It is shown only once, so keep it handy for the next step.

Add it to AI Emaily (IMAP tab)

  1. 1

    Open Add mailbox

In AI Emaily, open Add mailbox and select the IMAP tab.

  2. 2

    Enter your email

Enter your full Yahoo address, for example you@yahoo.com.

  3. 3

    Paste the app password

Paste the Yahoo app password you generated. Do not use your normal Yahoo login password.

  4. 4

    Confirm server settings

Use IMAP host imap.mail.yahoo.com on port 993 (SSL) and SMTP host smtp.mail.yahoo.com on port 465 (SSL) or 587. See the Server settings table below.

  5. 5

    Save

AI Emaily verifies the connection before saving. If the test fails, a hint indicates which setting is likely wrong.

Troubleshooting

  • Authentication failed: you likely entered your normal Yahoo login password. Generate a Yahoo app password and paste that instead.
  • No app password option: turn on two-step verification in Account Security, then return to Generate app password.
  • App password rejected: it may have been revoked or mistyped. Generate a fresh one and paste it without extra spaces.
  • Connection refused or timeout: confirm IMAP host imap.mail.yahoo.com on port 993 and SMTP host smtp.mail.yahoo.com on port 465 or 587, all over SSL/TLS.
  • Sending fails but receiving works: check the SMTP host and port. Try 587 if 465 does not connect on your network.
