Notifications & push
Desktop alerts and background web push when new mail arrives.
Aiemaily alerts you to new mail without keeping a browser tab open — foreground banners when you are active, background push when you are not.
Two kinds of notifications
Aiemaily uses two distinct notification channels so you stay informed without being overwhelmed.
Foreground notifications appear as desktop banners while the Aiemaily tab or app is open — a lightweight way to flag new arrivals without interrupting what you are reading.
Background web push is delivered even when Aiemaily is fully closed. A service worker running in the background receives the push event and surfaces a system-level notification — clicking it opens the relevant thread directly.
| Channel | When active | Requires app open? |
|---|---|---|
| Foreground desktop notifications | While Aiemaily tab or app window is focused | Yes |
| Background web push | Any time — even when browser or app is closed | No |
Enabling push notifications
The first time Aiemaily needs to send a background push it will ask your browser for permission. You can also grant or revoke permission at any time in Settings → Notifications.
On iOS, background web push requires the PWA to be installed to your home screen — it is not available in Safari tabs.

Notification controls
Settings → Notifications gives you per-channel control so alerts stay relevant rather than noisy.
- Toggle foreground banners and background push independently.
- Daily brief — a single morning summary push instead of per-email alerts.
- Quiet hours — define a time window (e.g. 22:00–07:00) during which no push notifications are delivered.
- Filter by importance — only alert for mail your AI agent has flagged as urgent or needing your attention.
Privacy & delivery
Push notifications contain only a minimal payload (sender name and subject line) — the full message body is never included. When you tap a notification, the full thread is fetched fresh from the server.
Aiemaily uses the standard Web Push protocol. Notification delivery goes through your browser vendor's push service (Apple, Google, Mozilla); Aiemaily does not operate a proprietary push gateway.
