Auto-triage & summaries

Priority, intent, and a one-line summary for every thread, automatically.

Every time Aiemaily syncs new mail, the agent reads each incoming thread and produces three pieces of intelligence: a priority score, an inferred intent, and a one-line summary. These appear at the top of the thread before you open it, making a hundred-message inbox scannable at a glance.

What triage produces

Triage runs automatically at sync on every unread thread. It does not require Autopilot or even Copilot — it runs in all authority modes including Manual. The output is surfaced in the thread list and at the top of the conversation view.

OutputWhat it meansWhere it appears
Priority scoreHigh / Medium / Low based on sender, content, and your behaviour rulesThread list badge and inbox sort order
IntentWhat the sender wants: a reply, a decision, information, receipt acknowledgement, etc.Thread list subtitle
One-line summaryA single sentence capturing the thread’s current state and what’s needed from youTop of the conversation view, above the message list
AI labelA scannable tag: reply-today, FYI, receipt, newsletter, escalate, etc.Thread list chip

AI labels

AI labels are short, action-oriented tags the agent applies based on triage. They make the inbox function like a sorted to-do list without requiring manual tagging.

  • reply-today — the thread needs your response within the day based on context and sender signals
  • FYI — no action required; informational only
  • receipt — a transactional confirmation; low priority, auto-archived by default if you enable that setting
  • newsletter — bulk or marketing mail; handled by your Newsletters skip rule if active
  • escalate — the agent flagged a trigger word or high-stakes condition requiring your immediate attention
  • waiting — you have replied and the thread is waiting on the other party

Labels complement, not replace, your existing folders

AI labels are a separate layer on top of your existing label or folder structure. They are generated fresh on each sync and do not modify the server-side labels in your connected mail account.

Re-summarising a thread on demand

If a long thread has evolved since the agent last ran, or if you want a fresh summary after adding new context via standing instructions, you can trigger a re-summarise at any time. Open the thread, click the agent icon, and choose ‘Re-summarise’. The one-line summary and AI label update immediately.

Re-summarise after a long back-and-forth

Threads with many replies accumulate context the initial summary may not reflect. Re-summarising after a negotiation or project thread heats up keeps the one-liner accurate and useful.

How priority is determined

Priority combines several signals: the sender’s presence in your behaviour rules (VIP rule → always High), your historical reply rate to the sender, time since last message, keywords in subject and body, and explicit escalation triggers. The algorithm is heuristic, not a fixed formula, and improves as your rules become more specific.

You can always override the priority on a thread manually — drag it up or down in the priority sort — without affecting the rule or the global model.
