Connect Fastmail
Connect your Fastmail account to AI Emaily using the IMAP tab and a Fastmail app password.
Fastmail doesn't have a one-click tab in AI Emaily. You connect it through the IMAP tab using a Fastmail app password and the server settings below.
Before you start
You need your Fastmail address and a Fastmail app password. AI Emaily uses an app password, not your normal Fastmail login password.
Create the app password in Fastmail first, then add it in AI Emaily.
Use an app password
Create an app password
- 1
Open Fastmail settings
Sign in to Fastmail, then go to Settings -> Privacy & Security -> App Passwords (on some accounts this is under Integrations -> App Passwords).
- 2
Create a new app password
Start a new app password and give it a name you'll recognize, such as "AI Emaily".
- 3
Grant Mail access
Set the access to "Mail (IMAP/SMTP/POP)" so the password can send and receive mail.
- 4
Copy the password
Fastmail shows the app password once. Copy it now; you'll paste it into AI Emaily in the next step.
Add it to AI Emaily (IMAP tab)
- 1
Open Add mailbox
In AI Emaily, open the Add mailbox dialog and select the IMAP tab.
- 2
Enter your email
Type your full Fastmail address (for example, you@fastmail.com).
- 3
Paste the app password
Paste the Fastmail app password you just created, not your login password.
- 4
Confirm server settings
If asked, use the IMAP and SMTP hosts and ports from the table below. SSL/TLS is on for both.
- 5
Save
AI Emaily verifies the connection before saving. If the test fails, a hint indicates which setting is likely wrong.
Server settings
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| IMAP host | imap.fastmail.com |
| IMAP port | 993 (SSL) |
| SMTP host | smtp.fastmail.com |
| SMTP port | 465 (SSL) |
| Password type | Fastmail app password (not your login password) |
Troubleshooting
- Authentication failed: you likely pasted your normal login password. Create a Fastmail app password and use that instead.
- App password needed: Fastmail requires an app password for IMAP and SMTP. A regular password or a two-factor code won't work here.
- App password lacks Mail access: re-create it and grant "Mail (IMAP/SMTP/POP)" access. A password scoped to other services can't sync mail.
- Connection refused or timed out: check the host and port match the table above and that SSL/TLS is enabled (IMAP 993, SMTP 465).
- Wrong username: use your full Fastmail address as the username, not just the part before the @.
