Connect GMX / Mail.com
Connect a GMX or Mail.com account to AI Emaily through the IMAP tab.
GMX and Mail.com do not have a one-click tab in AI Emaily. You connect them through the IMAP tab using your account credentials, after enabling IMAP access in your mailbox settings.
Before you start
GMX and Mail.com connect through the IMAP tab in the Add mailbox dialog. There is no Gmail- or Outlook-style one-click option.
Two things must be ready first: IMAP access turned on in your mailbox settings, and the right kind of password.
Use a password, not a guess
Enable IMAP access
GMX and Mail.com block IMAP until you turn it on. Do this before adding the account, or the connection test will fail.
- 1
Open mailbox settings
Sign in to GMX (or Mail.com) in a browser and open Settings.
- 2
Find POP3/IMAP
Go to the POP3/IMAP section. In GMX this is under Settings -> POP3/IMAP.
- 3
Turn on IMAP
Enable IMAP access and save. This allows AI Emaily to read and sync your mail.
Create an app password (if you use 2FA)
GMX and Mail.com typically accept your normal account password over IMAP. If you have two-factor authentication enabled, that password will not work and you need an application-specific password instead.
- 1
Open security settings
In GMX or Mail.com, go to the security settings for your account.
- 2
Generate an application-specific password
Create a new app password for mail access. The provider shows it once.
- 3
Copy it
Copy the generated password now. You will paste it into AI Emaily and will not be able to view it again.
Add it to AI Emaily (IMAP tab)
- 1
Open Add mailbox
In AI Emaily, open Add mailbox and select the IMAP tab.
- 2
Enter your email address
Type your full GMX or Mail.com address.
- 3
Paste your password
Paste your account password, or the application-specific password if you use two-factor authentication. Do not type your login password if 2FA is on.
- 4
Confirm the server settings
Use the values in the table below. For a German GMX account, set the IMAP host to imap.gmx.net instead. For Mail.com, use imap.mail.com and smtp.mail.com.
- 5
Save
AI Emaily verifies the connection before saving. If the test fails, a hint indicates which setting is likely wrong.
Server settings
Use these values in the IMAP tab. Swap in the German or Mail.com hosts where noted.
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| IMAP host | imap.gmx.com (German accounts: imap.gmx.net; Mail.com: imap.mail.com) |
| IMAP port | 993 (SSL) |
| SMTP host | mail.gmx.com (Mail.com: smtp.mail.com) |
| SMTP port | 587 (STARTTLS) or 465 |
| Password type | Account password, or an application-specific password if 2FA is enabled |
Troubleshooting
- Authentication failed: you likely used the wrong password type. If two-factor authentication is on, your login password will not work — generate an application-specific password and paste that instead.
- IMAP must be enabled: if the test fails right away, confirm IMAP is turned on under Settings -> POP3/IMAP in GMX or Mail.com.
- Connection refused or timeout: re-check the host and port. Use imap.gmx.com with port 993 (SSL), and mail.gmx.com with port 587 (STARTTLS) or 465.
- German GMX account: use imap.gmx.net as the IMAP host instead of imap.gmx.com.
- Mail.com account: use imap.mail.com and smtp.mail.com.
- Still failing: confirm your email address is typed in full and that the app password was copied without extra spaces.
