Labels
Colour-coded tags you define, applied to threads and browsable in the sidebar.
Labels are your own organisational layer — colour-coded tags you define, apply by hand or via rules, and browse in the sidebar like folders.
Creating a label
Labels are created from Settings → Labels → New label. Give the label a name and pick a colour from the palette. The label immediately appears in the sidebar under Labels and is available as a target in inbox rules.
- 1
Open Settings → Labels
The label manager shows all existing labels with their colour swatches and thread counts.
- 2
Click “New label”
Enter a name (up to 64 characters) and choose a colour.
- 3
Save
The label appears in the sidebar immediately and can be applied to threads.
Applying labels
Apply a label by right-clicking a thread and choosing Label → [label name], or by selecting a thread and pressing L to open the label picker. A thread can carry multiple labels simultaneously.
Labels can also be applied automatically via inbox rules. For example: “If the sender is team@company.com, apply label ‘Team’.” See the Rules doc for how to set this up.
Labels do not move messages
Browsing labelled threads
Each label has its own sidebar entry showing all threads with that label regardless of which folder they are in. The view is live: apply a label to a thread and it appears in the label’s sidebar view immediately.
The sidebar entry shows the label’s colour dot and an unread count of threads with that label that contain unread messages.
Editing and deleting labels
Rename or recolour a label at any time from Settings → Labels. Deleting a label removes it from all threads but does not delete the threads themselves.
Labels sync to the server, so they are visible across all your devices.
