AI Emaily vs GMass: Mass Sending vs Inbox Autonomy

Diagram comparing AI Emaily vs GMass for cold email: GMass sending a mail-merge campaign out of Gmail on one side, AI Emaily triaging and drafting the incoming replies on the other.

The short answer

Different jobs. GMass turns Gmail into a mail-merge and campaign sender — lists, personalisation, automatic follow-ups, open tracking. An AI email assistant like AI Emaily works on the other end of the pipe: triaging, drafting and closing out the replies that campaign produces. Most cold-email teams end up running both.

AI Emaily vs GMass for cold email: GMass sends the campaign from Gmail, AI Emaily handles the replies. Why they are different jobs, not rivals.

If you are searching AI Emaily vs GMass for cold email, the honest starting point is that these two products are not competing for the same slot in your stack. GMass is a sending engine bolted onto Gmail. AI Emaily is an email client with an agent in it. One pushes mail out; the other deals with what comes back.

That distinction matters more than any feature table. Running a 2,000-recipient campaign through an AI inbox assistant will not work; running your whole inbox through a mail-merge tool will bury you. This page maps both jobs, says where each tool is the wrong answer, and gives the current Gmail sending limits. We build AI Emaily — the GMass section below is written from its own published documentation, and our limits are stated rather than skipped.

The verdict up front#

If your problem is sending — a list, personalised mail merge from your own Gmail address, staged follow-ups that stop on reply, open and click tracking — GMass is the right tool and AI Emaily is not a substitute. We do not do mail merge or campaign sequences, and we are not going to pretend otherwise on a page about a mail-merge product.

If your problem is the return leg — a few hundred replies landing in the mailbox you also use for invoices and your actual work — a sending tool does not help and an AI inbox does. That is what AI Emaily is built for: sort what arrived, draft the answers, approve before anything goes out.

For most cold-email teams the answer is both. The mistake is buying one and expecting it to cover the other half.

Which half of the pipe are you buying for?

Decide whether your bottleneck is 'I cannot send enough' or 'I cannot keep up with what came back'. Most wrong purchases here come from skipping that question.

At-a-glance: what each tool actually does#

Capabilities below come from each vendor's own published pages, checked 16 September 2026. Products in this category ship fast — verify anything load-bearing on the vendor site before you commit.

The table above answers 'what does each tool do'. This is the question that actually decides which one you buy: which half of the pipe is your bottleneck.

Where AI Emaily wins: the replies, not the sends#

A cold campaign does not end when the last message leaves. It ends when every reply has been read, sorted and answered — in a normal mailbox, alongside everything else you do. At a few hundred sends a week that is manageable by hand; at a few thousand it is not, and nothing in a sending tool fixes it, because its job finished when the mail went out.

AI Emaily is a full email client that runs an agent over that mailbox: it reads what arrived, categorises it, and drafts replies you review before they send. The differentiators are about control rather than speed.

  • Approve-before-send is the default. Copilot drafts and waits; nothing leaves your account without you looking at it. Autopilot is a gated step up, not the out-of-the-box setting.
  • Undo and an audit log. Every agent action is recorded and reversible, so a bad triage rule is something you inspect and roll back, not something you discover three weeks later.
  • Voice comes from a Context brain you set plus per-client profiles you write. It does not infer a voice by reading your sent folder.
  • Provider-agnostic. Outlook, iCloud, Fastmail, Proton, Zoho, Yahoo and plain IMAP all connect, with multiple accounts in one inbox.
  • A cold-email filter matching on sender behaviour and domain rather than a single address — which matters when outreach into your own inbox rotates addresses.

What that looks like on a live campaign#

A campaign goes out Monday. By Wednesday the mailbox holds interested replies, hard nos, out-of-offices, removal requests, bounced auto-responders and your normal week's mail. AI Emaily sorts that, surfaces what needs a human decision, and has a draft ready on the rest. You still press send.

We build AI Emaily, so read this as the vendor describing its own product. The limits, just as plainly: we do not send your campaign, merge a spreadsheet, test inbox placement, or report on opens and clicks.

Where GMass wins: it is a sending engine and we are not#

GMass installs as a Chrome extension and puts campaign controls into the Gmail compose window, so mail goes out through your own Gmail or Workspace account rather than a third-party ESP. For a small team doing personalised outreach that is the whole appeal.

On its own site, GMass advertises mail merge from Google Sheets, dynamic lists driven by live sheet data, an Email List Builder that assembles recipients from a Gmail search, unlimited automatic follow-up stages, and reply and bounce detection that stops the sequence when someone answers. Campaign Analytics covers opens, clicks and replies.

It also ships deliverability tooling with no equivalent on our side: Spam Solver, which tests where a campaign lands across a set of Gmail and Workspace accounts and suggests changes; email verification; and SPF, DKIM and DMARC checks. There is a REST API, webhooks, Zapier connectivity and an SMTP path for higher volume.

AI Emaily does none of that and does not plan to. GMass is the better product for every job on this list, and there is no version of this comparison where we take the sending column.

Sending from your own mailbox means the reputation is yours

Campaigns sent through your Gmail account accrue to your domain's reputation, not a vendor's shared IP pool. That is an advantage for personalised outreach and a real risk on a poor list — the consequences land on the address you also use for customers and invoices.

Can I send bulk email from Gmail safely? What the limits actually say#

The ceiling is not set by GMass; it is set by Google, and the numbers are published. Note that Google moved this page — the long-standing support.google.com/a/answer/166852 URL now redirects to knowledge.workspace.google.com. Figures below are from that page and from the consumer Gmail help page, both checked 16 September 2026.

The limit that bites is not the daily cap#

The daily quota is the visible ceiling. The one that changes your life is Google's bulk-sender threshold at roughly 5,000 messages to personal Gmail addresses in 24 hours. Three details in Google's own sender guidelines are consistently reported wrong elsewhere.

It is counted per primary domain and aggregates subdomains, so splitting outreach across mail.example.com and go.example.com does not split the count. It is permanent once triggered — you do not drop back out by slowing down. And enforcement escalated from November 2025: non-compliant bulk traffic now gets rejections rather than spam-foldering.

The spam-complaint rate must stay under 0.1% and never reach 0.3%, with a seven-day cooldown before support mitigation. Microsoft runs a separate Outlook.com regime — SPF, DKIM and DMARC required above 5,000 messages a day since 5 May 2025, with 550 5.7.515 for non-compliant bulk mail. Neither product removes these constraints: GMass gives you tools to stay inside them, AI Emaily does not touch them.

One-click unsubscribe is required, not optional

RFC 8058 one-click unsubscribe is required for marketing mail by Google, Yahoo and Apple, and recommended by Microsoft. Whatever you send through, the header has to be there and the link has to work.

Does GMass write emails with AI?#

Partly — and the distinction is the one people usually mean when comparing a mail-merge tool to an AI email assistant.

GMass does ship AI features. Its site advertises an AI template builder that generates custom HTML layouts, SpinMax for automatic spintax variations, AI-generated suggestions inside Spam Solver, and Deep Analysis, which applies AI to campaign reports (announced 17 August 2026).

What it does not position itself as is a tool that writes your campaign copy — the composition step is yours, and GMass's own blog argues against using AI to write campaigns. As of September 2026 it helps you build, vary and diagnose a campaign you wrote.

AI Emaily's drafting works on the opposite side: replies to mail you received, written against a Context brain and client profiles you configure, held for approval. Neither product does the other's drafting job.

How do I manage replies from a cold email campaign?#

This is the part most teams under-plan. A workable process looks like this — tool-agnostic, and runnable by hand before you buy anything.

  1. 1

Separate campaign replies from everything else

In Gmail, a filter on the campaign's subject line or a plus-address keeps replies from competing with normal mail for attention.

  2. 2

Split into four buckets, not two

Interested, not interested, remove-me, and auto-reply or bounce. The third is a compliance obligation with a clock on it; the fourth is list hygiene and should feed back into your source data.

  3. 3

    Process removals first, same day

Opt-outs are the one category where latency creates legal and reputational risk. Do them before the interesting replies, every time.

  4. 4

Draft the positives with context, not a template

A reply to a cold email is the first real conversation. A generic templated answer undoes the personalisation you paid for on the way out.

  5. 5

    Close the loop on non-answers

Threads where someone engaged and then went quiet are your highest-value follow-up target, and the easiest to lose.

There is a real gap between step 2 and step 5#

Every step above scales linearly with send volume, in the same mailbox you use for customers and invoices. At a hundred replies a week it is an hour. At a thousand it is a job.

That is where an AI client earns its place: it runs steps one, two and four continuously, keeps step five on a visible list, and leaves the judgement calls to you. AI Emaily drafts each reply and holds it for approval, logs what it did, and lets you undo it. We build AI Emaily — the trial is seven days on the mailbox you already run outreach from.

Pricing model#

We do not publish competitor prices here — they change, and a stale number is worse than no number. The shape of the packaging is what is useful.

GMass publishes three individual tiers — Standard, Premium and Professional — plus team plans sized by number of users, and a free trial that starts by installing the Chrome extension with no card required. Verify current tiers on gmass.co/pricing before you buy.

AI Emaily has no permanent free tier. It is a 7-day free trial on Pro or Autopilot, card required, with nothing charged if you cancel before day seven. Plan details are on our pricing page.

For budgeting: because these tools sit at opposite ends of the pipe, running both is the normal outcome, not a sign you bought wrong.

A third option, honestly#

There is a category between these two worth naming: sales-engagement platforms that do sequencing, reply handling and CRM sync in one product — Mixmax, Yesware, Outreach, Salesloft. If outbound is a team function with quota attached, that is the shape of tool to evaluate rather than a mail-merge extension plus an AI client.

The trade-off is cost, contract length and lock-in, plus the fact that those platforms cover outbound only — mail that is not outbound still lands in your regular mailbox, still untriaged. The lighter two-tool combination works because the halves stay independent: swap either without touching the other. Which approach fits depends on whether outbound is a department or a channel.
